CrimethInc. launches NSPM-7 Defendants Union
- CrimethInc. (October 22, 2026): Earlier this month, The Guardian announced the existence of the NSPM-7 Defendants Union, a new experiment in movement defense. National Security Presidential Memorandum 7 is a government-wide strategy to investigate, disrupt, and prosecute what the Trump administration calls "left-wing political extremism." The administration has already used it to justify publicly killing Minneapolis anti-ICE rapid responders Renee Good and Alex Pretti, raiding the homes of University of Michigan students protesting the genocide of Palestinians, and re-indicting Stop Cop City protesters. The Defendants Union aims to help defendants mount a collective defense by offering free office hours with movement lawyers, access to trainings, resources on how to set up support committees, a common framework through the Defendants Pledge, and regular media updates and analysis about NSPM-7. The project explicitly aims to recenter the discussion about what Trump calls "antifa" on the movement's own terms. (Source)

Unicorn Riot: TikTok Revolt in France
- Unicorn Riot (October 24, 2026): On October 17, France witnessed some of the most intense urban unrest in its recent history. Activists described the events to Unicorn Riot as among "the fiercest riots France has experienced since World War II." The mobilization began weeks earlier, with a young TikToker calling for a revival of the Yellow Vests movement and an independent wave of high school protests spreading across France. On TikTok, AI-generated videos, influencers, humorous memes, and countless short clips promoted the demonstrations. High school students danced to the viral song "Hey Mr. Policeman" in front of police lines. Organizers estimated approximately 800,000 people demonstrated across France on October 17. (Source)
France: governments blame antifa for protests
- DW (October 25, 2026): A French intelligence assessment reportedly identified Antifa and other far-left groups as instigators of some of the violence, according to a French outlet. French intelligence officials reportedly identified three primary groups they believe are responsible for much of the unrest, including Antifa. The protests began as peaceful, student-led demonstrations over underfunded schools and merged with labor unions and reported left-wing activists. (Source)
- DW (October 2026): From arrests to crackdowns, how Europe's leaders are responding as protests rock the continent. Belgian Interior Minister Bernard Quintin accused far-left activists, including people linked to Antifa, of infiltrating demonstrations and encouraging young people to commit violence. Separately, a French intelligence assessment reportedly identified Antifa and other far-left groups as instigators of some of the violence. (Source)
Albania: prime minister blames antifa for dissent
- DW (October 2026): As Albania's anti-corruption protests grow, the prime minister blames "antifa" for dissent. Prime Minister Edi Rama said it was "antifa" that had stoked anti-government and anti-corruption sentiments in Albania. "These are young people who have been radicalized and ideologically indoctrinated and who are acting under the pressure or influence of a new, dark force that has emerged in Europe and the United States, a force that the President of the United States has designated as a terrorist organization: Antifa," Rama claimed. Redion Qirjazi, a security affairs researcher, told DW that "to date, no verifiable evidence has been presented to prove the existence of an organized Antifa structure in Albania, let alone its involvement in coordinating the protests." Qirjazi said Antifa "is not a unified international organization with a centralized structure or leadership, but rather an umbrella term for various movements and groups united by the fact that they are, at their core, anti-fascist." - It's Going Down / Unicorn Riot (October 2026): French organizers have begun planning Acte III on October 31, a broader strike and blockade mobilization on November 5, and a Europe-wide action on November 20. The number of Acte II actions increased to 649 planned protests as of early Friday morning in Paris, including at 21 train stations, three ports, two oil depots, and one refinery. (Source)
The word "antifa" was deployed as a political weapon twice this week by heads of government trying to delegitimize mass protest movements on their own soil. In France, a French intelligence assessment reportedly identified Antifa and other far-left groups as instigators of the riots that erupted during nationwide protests against rising living costs and school underfunding. In Albania, Prime Minister Edi Rama claimed that "antifa" (which he described as "a force that the President of the United States has designated as a terrorist organization") had radicalized young protesters demanding his resignation. Both claims are structurally false. Antifa is not a centralized organization, it has no leadership, and it has no membership rolls. It is an umbrella term for decentralized anti-fascist politics practiced by individuals and small groups. The governments making these claims know that, and they are deploying the label because it works: it lets them lump together students protesting teacher shortages, trade unionists marching against inflation, and anarchists smashing windows, and call the whole thing a terrorist conspiracy.
The actual antifascist movement was busy doing what it has always done: organizing on the ground, building legal defense infrastructure, and documenting far-right organizing. CrimethInc. launched the NSPM-7 Defendants Union this month, a collective defense project for people targeted under the Trump administration's National Security Presidential Memorandum 7, which the administration is using to justify killings, raids, and prosecutions against left-wing activists. Unicorn Riot continued publishing leaked far-right chat logs through its DiscordLeaks database. And in France, fifty Antifa groups joined a vast network to ensure chaos at weekend protests, as the movement's own coordination became a story that governments tried to isolate from the broader economic demands driving the crowds.
