Key findings

Gaza: strikes continue despite the ceasefire

West Bank: olive harvest violence and settler attacks

Lebanon: daily strikes and the stalled withdrawal framework

The Israel wars in Gaza and Lebanon are not ending, they are mutating. A year-old ceasefire agreement between Hamas and Israel is being violated by Israeli strikes on an almost daily basis: Palestinian health officials reported seven killed in Israeli attacks in Gaza over a single day in October 2026, and strikes have continued despite the ceasefire, including a drone strike near a school in Gaza City that killed a Palestinian man, and strikes that killed a Hamas Nukhba Force operative who invaded Israel on October 7. In the occupied West Bank, settler violence during the annual olive harvest has reached a level UN independent experts are calling for Israel to urgently address: five Palestinians were killed and over 240 injured by Israeli forces or settler attacks in the past two weeks, with 160 olive harvest-related settler attacks documented since the start of September, and record demolitions displaced 96 Palestinians.

In Lebanon, the situation is comparably grim. Israeli forces continue to conduct airstrikes and shell towns in southern Lebanon almost daily (Nabatieh al-Fawqa and Kfar Tebnit on October 20, Hadatha and Ain al-Samahiyeh on October 18, a large detonation in Zawtar al-Sharqiyah on October 17, and airstrikes in al-Mansouri on October 16), under a US-brokered framework that conditioned any Israeli withdrawal on Hezbollah's disarmament, a condition the group has rejected. Israel now controls roughly 20 percent of Lebanese territory, more than one million Lebanese have been displaced, and Defense Minister Israel Katz has threatened further advances if Hezbollah joins an Iranian attack. The US-mediation track in Florida is ongoing but fragile, and the pattern of double-tap strikes, where a second strike hits after rescue workers arrive, has been documented by rights groups and UN officials as a violation of international humanitarian law.
