UN report: Israeli crimes against humanity, genocide continues
- Common Dreams / UN OHCHR (Oct 26, 2026): A United Nations-mandated commission of inquiry issued a 19-page report detailing Israeli crimes against humanity in the occupied Palestinian territories, while also affirming that Israel's genocide continues in Gaza, despite a nominal yearlong ceasefire. Israel has committed war crimes and the crimes against humanity of extermination, persecution, torture, rape, and other forms of sexual violence in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, intentionally targeting Palestinian civilians as it continues to commit genocide in Gaza. Israeli authorities and forces continue to commit genocidal acts even after the so-called ceasefire agreement, with the intent to destroy the Palestinian people, in whole or in part. Israeli forces have also deliberately killed and inflicted serious bodily and mental harm against children in the West Bank . committing age-based persecution against Palestinian children. More than 21,500 Palestinian children, including over 1,000 infants, have been killed in Gaza over the past three years. The commission also documented that Israeli forces sexually abused Global Sumud Flotilla activists who were seized upon the high seas and abducted to Israel, including one male activist who was raped with a metal detector. More than 250,000 Palestinians have been killed or wounded in Gaza since the Hamas-led attack of October 2023. The report found that Israel's actions ultimately are designed to thwart any possibility of an independent Palestinian state. (Source)
- Haaretz / Democracy Now (Sep 9, 2026): Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has promised to sue the newspaper Haaretz after it reported he failed to heed a warning that Hamas was planning a major operation ahead of the October 7, 2023 attacks. Haaretz said in response that it stands by its reporting. The paper published excerpts of a forthcoming book by its reporters that found that UAE President Mohamed bin Zayed warned Netanyahu a week and a half before the attacks, and that the Israeli leader failed to inform his security chiefs. On Tuesday, opposition politicians accused Netanyahu of evading responsibility for security lapses and called him unfit to serve. In a rare joint statement, four opposition party leaders called for an immediate and thorough investigation into Netanyahu's failures. (Source)

Israel voted on October 27 in its first election since the October 7, 2023 attacks, and the result was a deadlock. Exit polls by major Israeli television networks showed neither Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's bloc nor his main rival Gadi Eisenkot's bloc securing the 61 seats needed for a parliamentary majority. Netanyahu's bloc won 50 seats, the opposition won 52-53, and Arab-led parties won 17-18 . a strong showing that could let them decide the next prime minister, though both blocs have refused to partner with them. Voter turnout hit 31.5% by noon, the highest at that hour since 1973. The election is the most important in years, and the outcome will shape Israel's course on Gaza, Lebanon, Iran, and the West Bank for the next government's term.
The election took place while Israeli forces continued operations on multiple fronts. The IDF sealed off all entry points to Ramallah in the occupied West Bank during the election, citing security. Israeli ground and air operations in Khan Younis killed at least 51 people, including women and children, according to Palestinian medical officials. Israeli strikes have killed more than 1,000 people in Lebanon over the past two weeks, nearly a quarter of them women and children, according to Lebanon's Health Ministry. And the IDF continued destroying terrorist infrastructure sites in southern Lebanon's security zone . more than 540 sites destroyed in recent weeks.
On the legal front, a UN-mandated commission of inquiry issued a 19-page report on October 26 finding that Israel committed war crimes and crimes against humanity in the occupied Palestinian territories . including extermination, persecution, torture, rape, and other forms of sexual violence. The report found that Israeli authorities continue to commit genocidal acts even after the nominal yearlong ceasefire, with the intent to destroy the Palestinian people. More than 21,500 Palestinian children, including over 1,000 infants, have been killed in Gaza over the past three years. The commission also documented that Israeli forces sexually abused Global Sumud Flotilla activists who were seized on the high seas and abducted to Israel.
The throughline is that the election outcome will determine whether Israel continues on its current trajectory . Netanyahu has been engaging with the US administration and Europe, presenting himself as the ideal partner in confronting Iran . or shifts direction under Eisenkot, a former military chief promising accountability for the security failures of October 7. Either way, the war on Gaza, the operations in Lebanon, and the expansion of control in the West Bank are not going to stop.
